How many people are there in the world (population)?

Obviously, this is a pretty difficult question to keep exact statistics. We do know that there are somewhere between 6 to 7 billion. One of the more sophisticated organizations keeping track is the Population Reference Bureau. In 2002, they stated that the world's population reached 6,214,891,000 people.
